West Heads now comprises of 1 House, 3 Barns, 1 Large Cattle shed, 1 Large Storage Shed . 1 Slurry tank, 14.8 Acres of land, a wee glen with two streams.
West Heads farm was originally part of the Loudoun Castle Estate owned by the Marquise of Hastings. Our research has shown that West Heads came into existence as a satellite farm to the Castle's main farm Loudoun mains around 1829. West Heads was originally a large 300 acre farm, the majority of the land formerly associated with the farm is now in private ownership and has been converted to forestry uses.
The farm's history is vague up until the late 1800's when the Wilson family took ownership of it and latterly they farmed it as a dairy farm up until the late 1990's
In early 2018 David and Michelle took ownership of West Heads after a long period of the farm being unused and subsequently falling into major disrepair. During the initial strip and clear out the pair found numerous curios and glimpses into the house and farm's previous life.
Above is a time capsule David found hidden in one of the window seats upstairs which had laid undisturbed for 101 years before he uncovered it.
Another note left behind the plaster board scribbled on the wall. We have had numerous discussions as to what we think the above says. We have both agreed that it looks like " John Smith loves this Haice" Haice being an old word for house.
